Something Awesome!

So as you all know I'm a Marine.
Thats cool and all but you all knew me as something different pre-marine so we can still have pretty normal non-marine conversations.

Every week in Elders Quorum, the first thing we do is a little "get to know you" deal. You basically just go sit by someone you don't know and have a short conversation with them, get to know them a little bit.

This is great except every conversation I have starts with, "So your'e the Marine." It moves progressively into "my (insert relative here) is in the (insert branch of service here) and is stationed at (insert duty station here). it continues to "I almost joined the (insert branch here) after I graduated but I (insert fasted or Prayed here) about it and it wasn't the right thing for me to do. this concludes with "Thank you for everything you do." this is where I get slightly or sometimes excessively uncomfortable. I FIX RADARS!!! I have never been to a combat zone, I have never saved anyones life and I have never fired a weapon at anyone who looks like a terrorist. Secondly I LOVE my job. I get paid to work out(a lot), shoot guns, go camping and look good in a uniform. Very little sacrifice on my part and yet people look at me like some kind of hero. I didn't join to become a hero I joined because I didn't want to look for another job in Salt Lake and pray to scrap by on rent.

This has led me to a conclusion. The Marines, and as much as I hate to say it, the other branchs of military are AWESOME. the fact that a little punk like myself can be transformed in peoples eyes into a hero just by going to three months of training show me just AWESOME the military is.

You all know the truth about this little punk so we can continue to have normal conversations!
YUT YUT, OOH RAH, Semper Fi, Kill Bodies and all that other MOTO stuff.

Star Wars?

So I went to see Jumper the other day.
I give it a 6.5 -6.8. It would have been better if not for Hayden Christensen "I , ah , shouldn't. its um not the Jedi way." Rachel Bilson is also a terrible actress but at least she makes up for it by looking good!
Movie was pretty good otherwise but more importantly it led me to watch another, would be great if not for that crummy actor, movie, the revenge of the Sith.
Maybe it was my very tired state of mind but I have started to see a whole different side to the whole star wars saga.
Anakin/ Darth Vader REALLY IS THE HERO!!! DUN DUN DUN!!!

Lets face it, Luke was cool, possibly only because he came first, but he was no match against the Emperor. It was Darth Vader in the end that had to kill him.

Funny to me that Obi One says to Anakin/Vader, "You were the chosen one, you were supposed to bring balance to the force not leave it in ruins." Silly Obi One! God or George Lucas rather, works in mysterious ways. Luke was just a weak little Pawn used to get Vader to do what he was supposed to do way back when!

So the moral of the story?
Don't watch Star Wars at 2 in the morning?
Do what you are supposed to do or you might end up destroying galaxies and planets and people you care about?
Don't get on the forces' bad side cause it has a bad sense of humor?
DON" WATCH STAR WARS AT 2 IN THE MORNING!

thats 2 posts in 2 days by the way. The road to redemtion is long and hard but here I am all the same.

"Pack Your Bags Your's Goin' On a Guilt Trip"

ok Ok OK!
When I joined this gang I didn't realize the pressure it was going to imply!
But here I am, writing so I assume all will be forgiven, for the time being anyway.

Burlington (BRRRR-lington)
So I went out into "the Field" to play. We left on the 5th drove 7 hours and pitched our tents, per say, into the frozen ground of Burrlington, Colorado/Kansas. The drive should have only taken 2 hours but with the freezing temperatures and the gail force winds, it was a very slow process. Burrlington is in colorado but the keychains at the gas station all said Kansas plus my phone was picking up the time from the phone tower in Kansas so you can imagine my confusion.

We set up My baby, LASER, and then we waited for the reservists to show up and, I don't know, get learned. They showed up for two of the seven days, looked at the planes as they flew past and lickety split, they were gone. We stayed for an extra three days in the freezing Hanger of Death, tore down the RADAR and then we drove another 5 hours home. All in all it was a cold, but awesome experiance. We set up all the shelters on the top of seven tons, which was different and diffucult.

So there thats what I did in the Frozen Tundra of Burrlington.

Phase Ten

So it appears as if I have joined some sort of posse.
It is kinda weird being the only brother with this thing but you all know me. I love to be the first to try ANYTHING!
It has been a really busy couple of days getting ready to go into the field for a week but with all the MAN WORK to be done it has flown and suddenly its friday.
It has become a ritual to go to my sergeants(Berto) house and play phase ten with him, his wife and a couple of the guys. It is lots of fun and it brings back some great family memories. He has a two year old son who makes me laugh like crazy. He also makes me miss Brendan and Jeremy lke crazy. It is good to be able to throw a kid around again.
Anyway I love my Marine Corps and I am so excited for Jared to join my "gun club."
The End or something like it.
